Why should you choose Massage?

Massage is a brilliant non-invasive form of therapy which can locate and treat muscle tension, strains and injuries as well as promoting circulation, muscle relaxation and healing. After treatment it can aid to improve performance and help the animal feel more comfortable. It is a huge benefit with the wellbeing to, it will aid mental relaxation and release tension within the body, it also a great to help aid recovery after an injury and to prevent muscle wastage.

Regular maintenance massages are effective in keeping your animals in top condition also to help prevent risks of injury. I will look at the animal as a whole not just the area of injury, due to any secondary muscle compensations where they may have been loading onto other limbs. 60% of the horse’s body weight and dogs have 45% which is made up of muscles there can be multiple spasms within the different muscle groups.

Massage can be used during training, before and post competition as it helps to keep the muscles healthy, builds up those that may be weak and has wastage and maintains strength and suppleness.

Massage also helps to prevents atrophy even during a period of box rest or restricted exercise. Stretching can help to restore muscles and joints to full capacity. Studies have proven in humans that massage post exertion increases circulation which aids the muscles to recover quicker and reduces fatigue.

Small muscle injuries can go undetected for up to 90 days before they become apparent. Any very slight changes in attitude, performance, stiffness or slight lameness must be investigated to help prevent a more serious injury. When one muscle group tightens it is like a domino effect it can transmit to other muscle groups that will need to compensate for the initial injury, for example an injury in one lower limb can put more strain on the back muscles and the opposite limb resulting in further muscle spasms and pain throughout the body and extra stress exerted on the ligaments and tendons, which can lead to ruptured tendons or torn ligaments.
